Work continued over the past week at the proposed site for the missile system in Seongju, a county in central South Korea. China has voiced strong objections to the arrival of the missile shield, claiming it undermines security in the region. Though the missile shield offers South Korea protection, its deployment is not without controversy in that country. Analysts, however, point out that without China’s help, the U.S. would not be able to target all of North Korea’s nuclear stockpile. South Korea and China agreed April 10 to bring in additional sanctions if North Korea carries out either a nuclear test or another missile launch.
