U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar will visit Taiwan in coming days, his office said on Tuesday, making the highest-level visit by a U.S. official in four decades — a move that angered China, which claims the island as its own. During his visit, Azar will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said, which may infuriate China further. Taiwan Health Minister Chen Shih-chung, who will also meet Azar, said he was looking forward to the visit. But China denounced the trip, saying it opposed any official interactions between the United States and Taiwan and had lodged "stern representations" with Washington. Cabinet-level official to visit Taiwan, in 2014.
