A Telegraph pictureNew Town: Two women who were sleeping were trapped for at least 15 minutes when their house at Gouranganagar on the fringes of New Town caught fire early on Friday. The fire started from a warehouse for signage adjacent to the house around 1am. The constable and the two civic volunteers entered the house and pulled the women out. Fire tenders took more than an hour to douse the flames at the warehouse, which was stocked with inflammable materials. An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said the names of the policemen who rescued the women have been forwarded for commendations for bravery.
