Twenty people were left injured when fighting began at Banshgari on Monday, said Superintendent of Police Md Shafiur Rahman. The dead have been identified as Arush Ali and Jainal, he said. Police said the two were among supporters of former Banshgari chairman Hafizur Rahman when they clashed with supporters of present chairman Sirajul Haque. At least 30 households were vandalised and torched during the clashes among men also armed with sharp weapons. The rivals have been fighting a turf war in the area, especially since Hafizur, ruling Awami League's Banshgari union president, lost the election, said SP Md ShafiurAnother villager was killed last month in a clash over their rivalry.
