It took all of two downpours on successive days to turn Bellandur lake into a frothing mess on Monday night. In fact, the sluice gate, which was constructed to control the flow of water and reduce froth, has not even been opened in the past few days. As a result, the polluted water continued to gush, working up a lather. The BDA, in its affidavit submitted to the National Green Tribunal in February, had listed out short-term and long-term plans to address the issues of Bellandur lake. The agency submitted that the overall rejuvenation of the lake is possible only after the completion of work on five sewage treatment plants around the lake. As a result, the water flowing out of the lake has been blocked, with mud piled up at the exit point.
