Two Durham Regional Police officers have been charged after a man was seriously injured in April 2017, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a news release Wednesday. After an 11-month investigation, the SIU found that an Oshawa traffic stop on April 26, 2017 resulted in serious injuries to a 35-year-old man. The man had been a passenger in a vehicle that was being driven by another individual, the release states. A previous press release about the same incident notes the stop was conducted by plainclothes officers. The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
