Two held for spreading bogus WhatsApp message on communal clash

Two people were arrested on Tuesday on the charge of attempting to disrupt communal harmony, when they allegedly posted a message on WhatsApp, claiming that a communal clash had occurred in Malad during Ganeshotsav. The message, written in Hindi and being circulated since Monday, stated that the clash occurred between two communities in Pathanwadi area on Sunday. Terming the message as "totally misleading", force spokesperson and deputy commissioner of police Ashok Dudhe said no such incident had taken place in the said area. "A case has been registered against five people at Kurar police station for spreading communal hatred and for rumour-mongering on social media," he said. While two people have been arrested, a search is on for three others, the officer added.
