The girls, aged 13 and nine, were digging up sand to be used for plastering their house in preparation for the Christmas season. According to Kisii County Police Commander Agnes Mudamba, the tragedy occurred around noon on Monday. She said her officers arrived at the scene shortly after 1pm and rushed the children to a hospital. The bodies of the victims were taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
