A serious crash has occurred near Ashburton on State Highway 1. (FILE PHOTO)Two people are confirmed dead after a vehicle crash on State Highway 1 north of Ashburton in Canterbury. Emergency services were called to the scene near the intersection of Wilkinsons Road, Chertsey, just after 7pm. FENZ had sent crews from Rakaia and Ashburton and were assisting police, he said. Police said the road is expected to remain closed for some time while the serious crash unit examines the scene.
