Two Christchurch men relied on a fake letter to gain private investigator certificates and one allegedly used this position to intimidate creditors. His close associate, former Zone Media manager Brodie Williams, would also go on to claim he was a private investigator. An investigation into both men's claims started with a complaint filed by the liquidator of Zone Media Ltd, Imran Kamal. The adjudicator then directly asked him if he was a private investigator, to which he replied "yes". Brodie Williams' temporary private investigator certificate of approval was suspended on March 7, 2019, and subsequently lapsed.
