Environment Southland has cut more than half a million dollars from its expenditure, but it will still post a budget deficit this year. The Long-term plan has a total operating expenditure forecast at $35,758,000 for the year ending June 30. Council chairman Nicol Horrell said it was important the council worked as hard as it could to reduce expenditure. Environment Southland is hopeful that National Emergency Management Agency and insurance will contribute approximately $1.5 million, and $2 million will be drawn from the council’s reserves tagged for this purpose.
