New Zealand reached a new record for Covid-19 testing on June 24, when 10,436 tests were performed, according figures released by the Ministry of Health on Thursday. It was the first time the country surpassed 10,000 daily tests since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The day before, the ministry had reported 9174 tests, which at the time was a record. That average has jumped to 6749 now, as lines have grown longer than during lockdown at some testing centres. Testing numbers may start to fall again in coming days after the Ministry of Health on Thursday changed the rules for people seeking Covid-19 tests.
