Two people are dead after a police-involved shooting inside the emergency room of a hospital in Cobourg on late Friday night, the Special Investigations Unit has confirmed. Cobourg police officers arrived at Northumberland Hills Hospital around 11 p.m. on Friday after receiving a call for gunshots heard inside the hospital, the SIU said in a news release. Jason Gennaro, an SIU spokesperson, said two officers responded to the hospital’s emergency room where they had an interaction with a 70-year-old man. The man was shot and pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The body of a 76-year-old woman was also located at the scene but Gennaro said she was not shot by police.
