Of the convicted, Maskawat Hossain of Bogura and Shariful Islam, a student of Prof Siddiquee’s department, will have to walk the gallows. Rahmat Ullah of Nilphamari, Abdus Sattar of Rajshahi and Sattar’s son Ripon Ali have been jailed for life. The mastermind of the murder, Shariful Islam, is on the run. The investigator charged eight people in court in the sensational case on his murder on Nov 6 last year. According to a tweet of SITE Intelligence Group, Islamic State claimed in its Amaq News Agency it killed Siddiquee for ‘calling to atheism’.
