Tshwane won't rule out nuclear as it works to beef up independent power


Part of the City of Tshwane's plans to add 1 000MW of independent power by 2026 involves recommissioning two mothballed coal power stations, which would add 480MW to the metro's power supply. The city has also not ruled out small modular nuclear reactors, if these are viable, according to an official. This comes as Tshwane battles its ongoing heavy debt burden with state-owned power utility Eskom.
