President Trump took to Twitter to taunt Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) over the recent, three-day partial government shutdown and the immigration talks. White House officials said on Jan. 25 that President Trump’s immigration plan supports a path to citizenship for “dreamers” and includes a $25 billion “trust fund” for a border wall. Despite Trump’s taunts of Schumer, some polls showed that more Americans blamed Trump and Republicans for the shutdown than they did Democrats. On Friday, Ben Marter, communications director for Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.), a lead negotiator, said Democrats have not been briefed by the White House. White House aides said Kelly remained in Washington during Trump’s two-day visit to an economic conference in Davos, Switzerland, to continue talks with Congress.
