Trump breaks Kansas silence

(Reuters) New Delhi, March 1: US President Donald Trump has condemned last week's Kansas shooting in which an Indian was killed and another injured, breaking nearly a week's silence that worried India and angered sections of its diaspora in America. Trump clubbed the Kansas shooting with recent threats Jewish centres in the US have faced - and which he had condemned earlier - and his comments fell far short of the outreach his two immediate predecessors had demonstrated following similar attacks. India, principally through its ambassador in Washington Navtej Sarna, has been nudging the Trump administration to act against the Kansas shooting more proactively than has been apparent. Republican Congressman Kevin Yoder, from Kansas, said he too had been in touch with the White House and requested Trump to refer to the Kansas shooting in his address to Congress. For many in the Indian American community, though, it didn't matter who's pressure had worked on Trump.
