President Trump and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) continued to feud on Twitter Wednesday night, with Trump accusing Cuomo of having a “total meltdown” earlier in the day and Cuomo charging that Trump wants to take the country back to more racist times. The sparring was prompted by Cuomo’s comments at a bill-signing ceremony in New York that were aimed at Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”“We’re not going to make America great again; it was never that great,” Cuomo said, drawing audible gasps and some applause. “We have not reached greatness. We will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged.”[Andrew Cuomo says America ‘was never that great,’ drawing gasps]Cuomo’s office later sought to clarify his intent, with a spokesman saying the governor “believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman and child has full equality.”That wasn’t enough to mollify Trump, who took to Twitter on Wednesday night, relaying Cuomo’s comments in all capital letters and asking: “Can you believe this is the Governor of the Highest Taxed State in the U.S., Andrew Cuomo, having a total meltdown!”Cuomo responded to the Republican president, writing: “What you say would be ‘great again’ would not be great at all...We will not go back to discrimination, segregation, sexism, isolationism, racism or the KKK.”Cuomo then cited a motto that appears on the state seal of New York, writing: “Excelsior -- Ever Upward (not backward).”Cuomo is up for reelection this year and faces a Democratic primary challenger, actress Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role in “Sex and the City.”
