WASHINGTON—President Trump is seeking $40 billion to fund the U.S. State Department and other international programs in fiscal year 2020, a slight increase over his prior year’s budget request but more than $10 billion below fiscal 2018 levels. The request continues Mr. Trump’s policy of reducing funding for international aid and diplomatic initiatives. Funding for the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development and related agencies was $55 billion in fiscal 2017, the last budget under the Obama administration.
