Trio of trophies for all-conquering cross-country runners

Trio of trophies for all-conquering cross-country runnersTim O'Connell Nelson College Preparatory Year 7 students Adam Barton, top left, Finn Kilworth, Fenlon Bayley and Tom Hoare have collected a trio of trophies for their cross-country successes. A group of Nelson College Preparatory Year 7 cross-country runners have enjoyed a solid winning track record in recent weeks – one they hope to continue in South Canterbury in two months' time. After winning their grade at the Nelson regional cross-country relay event on June 23, Prep went on to dominate the Year 7 race at the NISSA regional cross-country at Rabbit Island one week later. Fenlon Bayley won the 2.4km race in a time of 8 minutes 55 seconds, followed by classmates Tom Hoare and Callum Robertson. The boys train outside of school – Bayley around Grampians, Fairfield Park and Centre of New Zealand, while Hoare and Benton utilise the semi-rural terrain of Atawhai to stride out.
