Three men are believed to have died after their car burst into flames after crashing into the back of a large truck and trailer in Levin. Police said the occupants of the car were killed. Police were working to confirm how many people were in the car at the time of the crash. The New Zealand Herald understands three men aged in their 20s were in the car and were locals. Central fire communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said the crash was initially reported as a rescue so they sent two crews.
