A four-week judge and jury trial has been scheduled next year in the manslaughter case involving 15-month old Nathaniel McLellan, who collapsed at a home daycare operator’s house in 2015. Van Hoof, 42, who operated the unlicensed daycare, was arrested and charged in 2021 with one count of manslaughter following a Toronto Star investigation into the case. The case has had numerous twists and turns and delays since Van Hoof was charged. A preliminary hearing is an opportunity for a judge to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial. In Tuesday’s hearing, a London judge set aside the full day of June 12, 2023, to hear Prosser’s application to stay.
