Trends for the third gender

Inclusive fashionWhen we think about the major festivals in the country, the image of the celebrations is a very hetero-normative one. Just so, even though hijras have official/state recognition as the third gender when it comes to special occasions and festivals, such as Pohela Boishakh, which is observed as a celebration of Bengalis of all faiths, hijras are largely ignored and invisible. Rabita Rashid’s eponymous fashion label RR aims to start an important conversation about inclusivity. With the upcoming Pohela Boishakh in mind, the designer organized a powerful photo shoot using third gender models, to underscore that her designs are for everyone, regardless of race, creed or gender.
