The poisoned trees will have to be felled within the next few weeks. The actions of a person who deliberately poisoned three trees near a state highway are "extremely disappointing", the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says. NZTA The circled area shows where trees have been poisoned by State Highway 1, near Mosgiel. "An independent investigation has revealed that these trees were intentionally drilled and poisoned," NZTA coastal maintenance contact manager Nick Rodger said. The trees did not pose a hazard to anyone using the Kinmont Reserve or the road adjacent to State Highway 1.
