Responsibility for a large tree that toppled over in Queenstown two months ago, injuring five people, remains unclear. Delwen George (5), of Wellington, suffered internal injuries and his baby sister was also injured when the tree fell in high winds on a river bank at the Shotover Jet base on January 22. The group had been sitting near the tree watching the jet-boats on the water when it fell on them during high winds. At the time, there was confusion as to who was responsible for the tree - Shotover Jet operator Ngai Tahu Tourism or the Department of Conservation (Doc). The tree was on conservation land, in an area subject to a commercial lease.
