The value of production in transport and storage sector increased by 7.2 per cent in 2016 buoyed by improved road, air and port infrastructure by the government. The Economic Survey 2017 indicates the two sectors generated Sh994.7 billion in 2016 up from Sh928.3 billion in 2015. “Output of the road transport sub-sector grew by 6.1 per cent to Sh667.1 billion while that of the railway transport sub-sector declined by 9.9 per cent to Sh5.7 billion in 2016,” the report released yesterday states. Total cargo throughput handled at the port of Mombasa rose by 2.4 per cent to 1.1 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units in the review period., while pipeline throughput of white petroleum products expanded by 2.8 per cent to 5.9 million cubic metres in 2016.
