Chief livestock officer Phairoj Intharasri said rabies had been detected in Huay Yod, Wang Wiset and Palian districts. He said 15 of the 30 dogs tested had rabies. Phairoj said Livestock Department officials would first vaccinate animals within a one-kilometre radius of any dogs found carrying the disease and then expand the zones to five kilometres. He expected at least 80 per cent of dogs and cats in those areas would be vaccinated. Phairoj said foot and mouth disease had also been detected since December among livestock in Huay Yod, Wang Wiset, Muang and Kantang districts.
