A tramper who had a fall in the Richmond Ranges made the “best decision” to activate his personal locator beacon. A tramper was flown out of the Richmond Ranges after taking a fall and activating his personal locator beacon. Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter pilot Tim Douglas-Clifford said the chopper responded to the call at about 8pm on Saturday to pick up the solo tramper from Old Man Hut, in the Richmond Ranges. Despite windy conditions, it was a rescue for the helicopter crew, Douglas-Clifford said.
