A collision on the railway crossing happened between State Highway 26 and Piako Rd. A train and car crashed shortly before dawn on Thursday, but occupants of the car escaped unscathed. Emergency services were called to the collision near Morrinsville at 5.50am, a police spokeswoman said. The train had stopped after colliding with the car on the railway crossing between State Highway 26 and Piako Rd, the spokeswoman said. The car is off the tracks and there are no traffic diversions in place, although delays are possible according to NZTA.
