CHIANG MAI -- A young man was shot dead when he opened fire on police following a car chase in Chiang Saen district early on Monday, and 600,000 methamphetamine pills were found in his vehicle, police said. The man drove a Chiang Rai-registered yellow Hyundai car through a checkpoint when signalled to stop for a search. He was identified later as Tara A-ngiku, 21, of Chiang Rai's Mae Fa Luang district. Pol Capt Boonchuay Kanthawong, duty officer at Chiang Saen police station, said the incident began about 15 minutes after midnight on a road between Mae Kham Tai and Nong Pla Sadet villages in tambon Si Don Mun in Chiang Saen district.
