The prosecution has abandoned its corruption case against three of four Toronto paralegals alleged to have been part of a ticket-fixing scam in a west-end traffic court. There is insufficient evidence to proceed against Alexiu due to “significant delays” in obtaining “crucial” cellphone evidence, a prosecutor told court in a teleconference proceeding. Bennardo declined to comment about his case, though he told the Law Society last year the charges were unfounded and he’d be cleared. He describes Alexiu, who has been licensed as a paralegal since 2008, as one of the busiest traffic court paralegals in Ontario. After their arrest, the Law Society tried to suspend the paralegals’ licences.
