A review commissioned by the Marlborough District Council says there isn't enough out-of-town traffic for a bypass, but there is enough for a roundabout at this Budge St intersection. A review of the main highway through Blenheim shows traffic numbers do not warrant a bypass, but they do warrant another roundabout. Building a bypass would therefore not reduce traffic congestion because most of our traffic is local trips.”The survey, collected last October before the Covid-19 pandemic, recommended an extra roundabout at the Budge St intersection with SH1/Grove Rd. There was a high level of traffic demand between Blenheim’s Nelson St and Sinclair St, and Redwood St and Main St. The second biggest delay was at Nelson St, with drivers waiting about 32 seconds, followed by Alfred St, where drivers waited 19 seconds.
