Trade unions call for inspection of foreign companies breaching labour laws

Speaking at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru during Labour Day celebrations, the Kenya Building, Timber and Construction Industries Workers Union Secretary Maurice Shisoka said the companies should be regularly inspected to curb exploitation. “With the high number of Government projects being awarded to foreign companies we have seen the foreigners abusing Kenyan workers physically and financially. We call for inspection of their operations and prosecution of those operating outside the legal framework,” said Mr Shisoka. He also accused the companies of giving jobs that Kenyans could do to foreigners. Kenya Union of Commercial Food and Allied Workers Secretary Thomas Ochola opposed proposed amendments to the Labour Relations Act.
