Toyota recalling 60,000 Sienna minivans for defective sliding doors

Toyota is recalling 850,000 minivans worldwide including 60,000 in Canada to fix a defective door latch which can cause a sliding door on the Sienna to open up while the car is in motion. "In the involved vehicles, there is a possibility that, under certain limited conditions, if the sliding door opening operation is impeded, the sliding door motor circuit could be overloaded," Toyota said. "If this occurs when the door latch is in an unlatched position, the door could open while driving, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant." The automaker is recalling Siennas between the 2011 and 2016 model years, and will be advising owners of the problem soon, but in the meantime they can check their vehicle's VIN number to see if it is included at toyota.ca/recall. The automaker declined to comment on whether or not it knew of any injuries or deaths related to the defect.
