Tourism Minister disappointed over ditching of bed count

The tourism industry is outraged by the cost saving move claiming the lack of key information will deter investment, and there have been hints of more cuts to come. A hui will be held with the tourism industry in the next two months to ensure alternative data met their needs. Basher said Stats NZ decided to stop the commercial accommodation survey because of financial pressure, and it was possible other surveys - including tourism ones - could go.
