The spectator accused of causing a massive pile-up during the Tour de France’s first stage is set to face trial. The spectator is being sued for involuntarily causing injury and putting the life of others at risk. The development comes one day after Tour de France organisers dropped legal action against a sign-wielding spectator who caused what some described as the “worst crash ever” seen in the race. The spectator was holding a cardboard sign and facing away from the cyclists at a TV camera as they passed. Miansoni said the suspect wanted to send an “affectionate message” to her grandparents, adding that her grandmother has German origins.
