Tottenham and Liverpool both reportedly sent representatives to Portugal last Thursday for the cup clash between Sporting CP and Benfica. The two Premier League sides would have been paying particular attention to Sporting, but had their eyes on entirely different targets. According to Record, Spurs had scouts at the Jose Alvalade Stadium to watch defensive midfielder Morten Hjulmand. Liverpool’s motivation for having personnel watch the Taca de Portugal first leg, which hosts Sporting won 2-1, didn’t centre around any players though. Speculation is mounting that the Reds are lining up manager Ruben Amorim, if an intended move for Xabi Alonso falls through.
