Tory leadership election policies: How each candidate would change tax and UK

Boris Johnson: A tax cut for the richest Brits(Image: Peter Summers)The Tory frontrunner was initially tight-lipped about his actual policies - fearing any actual meat on his campaign could turn into a gaffe. But he then announced a massive income tax cut for Britain's richest people - by raising the 40p threshold from £50,000 to £80,000. That would make the UK's tax rate by far the lowest in the G20 and turn the country into a tax haven. Yet in red meat for Tory voters, he also planned a tax cut for the richest 1% of taxpayers in the UK by removing the 45p rate of income tax, if it pays off overall. But he also came out with Conservative policy - saying stamp duty would be slashed with a goal of eliminating it entirely for homes under £1 million.
