The latest COVID-19 patient in Toronto is a woman in her 60s who returned to the city from Iran nine days before heading to Sunnybrook hospital with symptoms, officials revealed as public health staff trace her path and contacts in the city to determine any risks of transmission. “It does take time to piece back history,” she told a news conference Wednesday with Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer. “All protocols were followed,” said De Villa, noting it is “not surprising” to have a case arrive from Iran given Ontario’s highly mobile population. Preparations for a wider spread include looking at ways to increase Ontario’s testing capability, which is now limited to 1,000 tests per day at the provincial public health lab. “We’ve never undertaken that.”As of Wednesday morning, Ontario has 14 people awaiting test results for coronavirus.
