This year is expected to be historic, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau becomes the first Canadian prime minister to march in a pride parade. The Toronto Pride parade begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, the final glorious, glittering march that caps off a month of celebrating the LGBT community in and around the city. Trudeau has marched in the Toronto parade before, but this will be the first time he has marched as the prime minister. “Canada is united in its defence of rights and in standing up for LGBTQ rights; this is what we are truly celebrating today,” Trudeau said after raising the rainbow flag on Parliament Hill on June 1 to kick off Pride Month.
