Toronto Dyke March expected to draw thousands

Led this year by the Black Lives Matter Toronto Coalition, the 2016 Dyke March is happening Saturday, July 2 at 2 p.m. It’s typically a blend of political rally and celebration, initially starting as a “protest against Pride not having specific dyke spaces,” Jaime Martino, operations director and staff liaison of Dyke March, recently told the Star. The event draws an estimated 10,000 spectators — a big jump from the roughly 50 participants in the first official march two decades ago. The march is starting at the intersection of Church St. and Bloor St. before heading down Yonge St. to Carlton St., then winding into Allan Gardens for a gathering of local queer artists, performers, poets and activists.
