Ryan Goins put his team before himself when he explained how his one-inning relief stint in the Jays’ 19-inning, 2-1 loss to Cleveland Friday cost him a trip to the disabled list. “My role here is to do what I’m asked, if they ask me to be a pitcher, then I’m a pitcher,” Goins said Saturday morning, when it was revealed he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with forearm tightness. Goins worked the 18th, and fellow infielder Darwin Barney the 19th, marking the first time in club history the Jays have used two position players to pitch in a regular-season game. He’d had something of a heroic moment during his stint, coaxing an inning-ending double-play ball from Cleveland’s Chris Gimenez to keep the game tied at 1-1. Goins, unfortunately, felt some tightness develop in his right forearm.
