Today in Canada’s Political History: Sir Wilfrid Laurier delivers inspirational speech in Toronto

Today in Canada’s Political History: Sir Wilfrid Laurier delivers inspirational speech in TorontoOur greatest Prime Minister, Sir Wilfrid Laurier (his greatness only equaled by Sir John A. Macdonald), was at Toronto’s Massey Hall on this date in 1904. That is not and never shall be the case with the Government which I represent before you today. (Applause) We shall not, whatever our errors are otherwise, we shall not err for want of boldness. Let me tell you, my fellow countrymen, that all the signs point this way, that the twentieth century shall be the century of Canada and Canadian development. (Cheers) For the next seventy years, nay for the next one hundred years, Canada shall be the star towards which all men who love progress and freedom shall come.
