(In 1986, the Mothers split into two factions over ideological differences; Hebe de Bonafini became the President of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association, which was separate from the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo Founding Line). Today at 1 PM, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association will make its 2000th rotation around the Pyramid within the Plaza de Mayo, a protest they’ve held every Thursday since the last military dictatorship in Argentina. Bonafini, one of the co-founders of the original Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and now the President of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association, came to the square to protest the arrest of her first son. As in 1977, the protests of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo are silent. Yet the founders of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo protested despite the danger.
