The Judiciary is a weak species that depends on its ‘superiors’ — the Executive and Legislature, in that order — for survival. Without the donations of Parliament, which appropriates budget, it would starve to death. From a deliberate effort to weaken it at conception to contempt, history is defined by consistent presidential defence of the executive power. At the base of this defence are the electoral legitimacy the Executive enjoys in comparison and the frustration that comes with courts limiting Executive agenda. Meanwhile, Chief Justice David Maraga’s protests are dismissed as the mere cries of an attention seeker.
