I have represented, over many years, victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and have been struck by the lack of insight into the reasons behind what they endured. Profiling offenders, tougher sentences and exposing those who failed the victims may well be very necessary, but we already know enough about what has been happening to very vulnerable young people in our country, and we owe it to them to fully understand how it came about.
