A push incident that was retaliated with blows has ended in the Timaru District Court with Kieran Neal Whyte being found guilty of assault with intent to injure. Constable Paul Verge, of Timaru, recalled Whyte saying this. Whyte told Verge that Hunter "f.....g hit me and he better regret it", when the officer attempted to take his statement. Constable Dave Phiske, of Timaru, said Whyte was topless and bleeding from his lip when he arrived at the scene ahead of Verge. Kevin Hill and his partner, Catherine Smith, said they witnessed Hunter knock Whyte down but did not want to intervene.
