Tian Chua to know on Nov 6 whether he can contest future polls

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Vice-President Tian Chua will know on Nov 6 whether he can contest in future elections. High Court judge Datuk Seri Marina Yahya fixed the date after hearing submissions by both the applicant and respondent in her chambers today. On April 30, Tian Chua whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, 55, filed an originating summons against the Returning Officer and Election Commission for not allowing him to contest in the Batu Parliamentary seat. He appealed, and the High Court last month reduced the fine to RM2,000 as the offence did not involve bodily harm. In the originating summons Tian Chua sought a court declaration in that he was an eligible candidate to contest the seat, according to Article 48(1)(e) of the Federal Constitution.
