Threat of no-deal Brexit has risen, says expert

The Scottish Fiscal Commission provides independent forecasts for the economy RUSSELL CHEYNE/REUTERSA member of the Scottish Fiscal Commission has warned politicians the threat of a no-deal Brexit has increased. Alasdair Smith told the finance and constitution committee at Holyrood that would have a serious negative impact on projections for economic growth. The commission was formed to provide independent forecasts for Scotland’s economy, which then go to inform the government’s budget plans. It recently revised downwards its projections for growth in 2019 and 2020, with weaker investment trends as a result of Brexit uncertainty among the reasons for the change. Its central premise for those predictions is based around the UK making an orderly exit from Europe this year.
