Thousands of records to go unprobed despite illegal adoption fears


A full-scale examination of historical records to try to identify illegal adoption cases will not go ahead even though suspicious entries were found in hundreds of documents. The review report, published yesterday, revealed “markers” or suspicious wording in 267 out of 1,496 records examined from adoption societies, nursing homes, and boarding out scheme. However, the review was unable to unearth conclusive evidence of illegal adoptions and concluded a more comprehensive review of records was unlikely to do so either. But the review report has raised as many questions as it has answered. However, she went on to say it was unlikely a more comprehensive review of records would provide the clear information required.
